“We claim spiritual progress rather than spiritual perfection.”

“We claim spiritual progress rather than spiritual perfection.” Alcoholics Anonymous (1939) · Chapter 5 · How It Works
Where it comes from

From Chapter 5, in the lines that follow directly after the Twelve Steps are listed for the first time.

Today’s reflection

The Steps are ideals, and the book says so in the same breath it lists them. Perfectionism is just self-centeredness in a nicer outfit — and it’s relapse fuel, because if the standard is flawless, one bad afternoon feels like proof you’ve failed entirely. You haven’t. Direction matters more than distance. Were you a little more honest today than yesterday? That counts. Fully.

What types of treatment are available in Buffalo?
Buffalo offers comprehensive treatment options including inpatient/residential treatment (24/7 care for 30-90 days), outpatient treatment (attend during day, return home), intensive outpatient programs (IOP, 3-5 days per week), and partial hospitalization programs (PHP, structured daytime treatment).
How long does addiction treatment take?
Treatment duration varies by program: detox (3-10 days), inpatient (28-90 days), IOP (8-12 weeks), and outpatient (3-6 months). Many Buffalo facilities offer flexible program lengths tailored to individual needs. Aftercare and support group participation is recommended ongoing.
What therapies are used in Buffalo treatment centers?
Buffalo treatment centers commonly use evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), EMDR for trauma, motivational interviewing, family therapy, group therapy, and holistic approaches like yoga and mindfulness meditation.
Can I work while in treatment?
It depends on the program type. Inpatient treatment requires full-time residential commitment. Outpatient and IOP programs in Buffalo are designed to accommodate work schedules, with evening and weekend sessions available at many facilities.
How do I find the right recovery program in Buffalo?
Consider the type of treatment needed (detox, inpatient, outpatient, sober living), insurance coverage, location preferences, and specialized programs. Browse directory listings in Buffalo and call providers to confirm current availability, services, and payment options.
Do facilities in Buffalo accept insurance?
Many treatment centers and detox facilities in Buffalo accept major insurance plans including Medicaid, Medicare, Blue Cross, Aetna, Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare. Sober living homes typically require private pay but some partner with treatment centers for covered clinical components.
